Health Insurance

All full time undergraduate and graduate domestic and international students must have health insurance. Students are automatically enrolled in the school accident/sickness plan when they register. Students may waive the school's insurance if they can provide proof of comparable coverage. See details below, and on the Health Insurance Waiver page.

Important Notice For Students Considering Waiving Out Of The Pace Insurance Plan

Waiving out of the Pace Insurance Plan is a self-reporting process and is not independently verified by Pace or by our insurance provider (although we do independently verify that plans for international students include repatriation and evacuation coverage). For this reason, it is critical that all students choosing to waive the school accident/sickness plan consider not only whether they have insurance coverage, but also the degree to which that coverage is valid in New York State. Many out of state plans offer limited coverage or no coverage. Coverage may also be different for physical health vs. Mental health. Please take time to verify coverage before waiving the school plan.

The best way to verify the coverage (and limitations in coverage) of your insurance plan is to contact your insurance company. In most cases, there will be a contact number on the back of your insurance card. It may help to get specific, asking about whether the plan covers the following at the same level in NYS as it may in their home state or country:

  • Urgent care
  • Wellness visits
  • Sick visits
  • Prescriptions
  • Mental health care
  • Advanced imaging and diagnostic testing
  • Physical therapy

Please visit the Health Insurance Waiver page for information about the waiver process.

They must either remain enrolled in the 泫圖弝け Student Health Insurance Plan, or complete the waiver process to be excluded from the plan. Students studying remotely and are in the U.S. must be insured or waive out by the wavier deadline. Students who are studying remotely from their home country are exempt from the mandatory 泫圖弝け Student Health Insurance Plan. However, they will be billed and therefore have to go through the waiver process indicating on the waiver form study from the home country. Waivers based on study from home country must be submitted for every academic term of enrollment.

  • The costs, which vary for domestic and international students, and also vary by the start of enrollment, are explained in detail above.

  • The dates of coverage are listed above. Students who arrive in New York for academically related reasons (including student athletes arriving for training camp and practice, or international students arriving to search for housing or attend orientation) may be eligible for an extension of their coverage (at a prorated additional charge). Athletes seeking an extension of coverage should speak with their coach or a member of the Athletic Department administration. International students seeking an extension of coverage should speak with their admissions advisor.

  • For the safety of our students and our campus community, we require all full-time students enrolled in in-person classes to health insurance. We have worked to develop a plan that is, in many cases, more affordable and more robust than alternative plans held by students and their families. Additionally, we know that our students from out-of-state may experience issues with the breadth of the coverage provided by their plans when used in New York State. For these reasons, our students are automatically enrolled in the plan. They may opt out, utilizing the wavier process described below, if they can demonstrate comparable alternative coverage.

  • Insurance plans and their cost structures are based on identifying the total number of people covered by the plan. For this reason, there must be a clear deadline after which the number of participants will not decline. This is a major factor in keeping costs down for all participants.

  • Yes, students may secure financial aid (typically in the form of federal or private student/parent loans) to address their 泫圖弝け health insurance plan expense. However, because not all students use the Pace plan, the expense is not initially included in the Financial Aid Cost of Attendance (COA) budget. Students who wish to take advantage of the Pace Health Insurance plan, and desire to have financial aid (again in the form of federal or private loans) address the charge, need only email financialaid@pace.edu with their names and University ID numbers, and a statement that they will need Pace Health insurance and wish to have their COA budgets increased to account for this expense.

  • Students enrolling in the program in the fall are covered for a full calendar. After the Fall deadline, students may enroll for the spring and summer by the SPRING deadline. After the Spring deadline, students may enroll for the Summer by the SUMMER deadline. After the summer deadline, students may not enroll in the plan. Students who experience a life event that results in the loss of other insurance may be eligible to be enrolled in the insurance after these deadlines. Students experiencing this must contact The Allen J. Flood Companies, Inc. at (800) 734-9326, or Pace@ajfusa.com. Students must be prepared to provide proof of the event resulting in loss of coverage. Additional limitations may apply.

  • Students who graduate during the academic year have the choice to either terminate their coverage, keep their coverage through the standard coverage period (August 14), or extend their coverage for an additional 3 months past the standard coverage period. To maintain coverage as is, students do not need to take any action. To terminate the coverage, students must submit a request to AJ Flood, requesting that coverage end as of the date of their graduation. Coverage will be terminated as of the last day of the month in which the student requests termination of coverage AND their graduation takes place (whichever comes later), and a prorated refund of the premium for the unused portion of the coverage will be issued to the student. To extend coverage, students must contact AJFlood companies and complete an extension enrollment form with payment.
