Biography

Adjunct Professor Peter Passidomo is a Judge in the New York State Family Court. He was appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to the Family Court Bench in July of 2012. Judge Passidomo sits in the Bronx Family Court presiding over Juvenile Delinquency cases as well as confirmation hearings in support cases where incarceration is recommended by the Support Magistrate. He also hears Child Neglect cases when there is a pending delinquency case involving the same youth.

He has served the New York State Family Court in many high level positions over the past 24 years. Prior to his appointment to the Family Court Bench in 2012, Judge Passidomo served as the Chief Clerk of the New York City Family Court; Chief Magistrate of the New York State Family Court and as Vice Dean of the New York State Judicial Institute.

As the Chief Magistrate, Judge Passidomo was in charge of New York State’s 120 Support Magistrates and 50 Court Attorney-Referees who, together, preside over more than 300,000 case filings each year. In 2006, Judge Passidomo was appointed as the Vice Dean of the New York State Judicial Institute. The Judicial Institute is charged with training New York’s 1,200 State Judges, 2,000 court attorneys, as well as the 2,000 town and village judges. He served as both the Chief Magistrate and as Vice Dean from 2006 to 2009. As Chief Clerk, together with Administrative Judge Edwina Richardson-Mendelson, he developed a plan for the future of the New York City Family Court that focuses on the experience of litigants in family court from the moment that they enter the building until they leave with a court order.

Judge Passidomo served as an attorney for the International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation for four years prior to joining the family court in 1989. He also serves as the co-chair of the Family Court Advisory and Rules Committee, one of the standing advisory committees of the Court. He graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany in 1982, with a B.A. degree. He received his J.D. degree from Fordham Law School in 1985, graduating in the top 10% of his class.
