Biography

Adjunct Professor Seth A. Davis has practiced law for almost 50 years, with more than 40 years of specialization in environmental law. Professor Davis, now a solo practitioner, was a partner in Elias Group LLP in Rye, and in Huber Lawrence & Abell and Fink Weinberger PC in New York City. He handles a wide variety of environmental issues arising out of a wide range of corporate and real estate transactions, regularly represents responsible parties in site remediation and cleanup negotiations, and counsels corporate and individual clients on compliance with all the environmental statutes.

Prior to his return to private practice, Professor Davis practiced environmental law in the law departments of Revlon, Inc. and the Celanese Corporation. During the more than 40 years he has specialized in the area, Professor Davis has worked in just about every area of environmental, health and safety law. He has taught Environmental Law in Commercial Transactions at Haub Law since 2003.

Professor Davis is recognized as one of the countrys leading specialists in Superfund and hazardous waste site remediation, and in counseling clients on environmental aspects of corporate transactions. He regularly counsels clients on the effect of environmental regulation on business and real estate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and sales and refinancing of real property, and represents clients in environmental enforcement proceedings and cleanup activities. He has conducted environmental audits and due diligence reviews for transactional purposes, and counseled corporate clients on development of environmental programs.

Professor Davis was Chair of the American Bar Associations Section of Environmental, Energy, and Resources Law (SEER) in 2016-7. Prior to becoming Chair, Professor Davis served as SEERs Publications Officer, served on the Section Council, and chaired SEERs Committees on Site Remediation, and Environmental Transactions and Brownfields. Since 2020, Professor Davis has represented SEER in ABAs House of Delegates. He received his JD from Harvard University in 1975, and his BA., Summa cum laude, in 1972 from Wesleyan University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Professor Davis now resides in Bethel, Connecticut. Previously he resided in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, where he served as Chairman of both the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board. He is painfully aware that, no matter what else he accomplishes, he will be remembered for being a 4-time winner on Jeopardy! in 1991.
