Survey Resources

Institutional Surveys OPAIR administers institutional surveys each year which allow the University to measure student and faculty/staff satisfaction. Key institutional surveys include:

  • National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is administered to First Year students and Seniors every three years (2021, 2024, 2027...)
  • The Ruffalo Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (RNL-SSI) is administered every three years to all undergraduates (2022, 2025, 2028...)
  • The Great Colleges to Work For Survey is administered in partnership with Human Resources to all faculty (FT and PT), staff (FT) and administrators every two years (2022, 2024, 2026...)

If information is needed that is not contained in one of the institutional surveys, you may consider administering a survey subject to the university policy.

Survey Policy and Procedures minimize survey fatigue and collection of duplicate data, reduce the number and timing of multiple surveys to the same audience, ensure surveys are methodologically sound and support the appropriate distribution and use of survey results.

The Survey Policy applies when a department or college/school plan to survey 50 or more respondents. It does not apply to questionnaires and limited surveys used to test the reaction to a course or a training session, course assessment, or surveys administered by students as coursework. If you would like to administer a survey, please complete the Survey Request Form (PDF) by June 30 for fall survey administrations and by September 30 for spring survey administrations.

All surveys must be approved by OPAIR. Approval from OPAIR will be based on survey timing, population and information being collected. Additional approvals required as listed below:

Survey Tools and Support

Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ has invested in several tools that can be used to administer surveys. The two primary tools are MS Forms and Qualtrics. To the extent possible, Qualtrics should be used only for more complex surveys and research by faculty. Staff and administrators needing to collect information or administer basic surveys should us MS Forms, a tool included in our Microsoft license.
