Annual Environmental Law Lectures and Awards

The Elisabeth Haub School of Law established the Gilbert and Sarah Kerlin Lecture on Environmental Law more than 20 years ago to expand its programs of research, education, professional and scholarly activity and publications in environmental law and welcomes distinguished lectures to speak on pressing environmental topics annually.

The Lloyd K. Garrison Lecture on Environmental Law was established in memory of Lloyd K. Garrison in 1995 who, along with his associate, Albert K. Butzel, of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, won the landmark decision to preserve Storm King Mountain on the Hudson River. This historic legal victory inaugurated what we recognize today as the field of environmental law.

First established in 1979, the Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy is the world’s most prestigious award in the field of environmental law. Chosen annually by an esteemed jury, the Award recognizes the innovation, skill, and accomplishments of lawyers, diplomats, international civil servants and other advocates who work to create the world environmental order.

The Haub Environmental Law Distinguished Junior Scholar Award is presented annually to an emerging junior environmental law professor who exhibits scholarly excellence and promise at an early stage in his/her career. The Haub School invites the award recipient to present his/her recent scholarship to the Haub community.
