Custom Training Programs

The Land Use Law Center offers customized training opportunities to community leaders representing all interest groups involved in land use matters.

Custom Training Programs

An in-house land use training program can be designed to meet the needs of your municipal board members and staff. The training can be customized to include both basic and more advanced land use training topics, including but not limited to:

  • How the land use system operates
  • Procedural aspects of land use decision-making
  • Board roles and responsibilities
  • Comprehensive planning
  • Local conservation and development techniques
  • Planning for public engagement
  • Meeting housing needs
  • SEQRA
  • Conflicts and ethics

The training program gives local board members the practical and technical skills they need to make sound land use decisions and to successfully address critical land use issues facing their communities. Each program is effective because it is tailored to deal with the specific issues of the participants and the community.

Training programs can be designed to be 2 hours to 4 hours in length and can take place evenings Monday through Thursday. Land use board training credits, AICP credits, AIA credits and Continuing Legal Education credits can be provided.
