Land Use Technical Assistance

As part of its mission to help municipalities achieve sustainable development, the Land Use Law Center works with cities, towns, and villages to identify and remove obstacles to sound land use practices and decision-making. Linked to its role as an educational institution, the Center can provide strategic recommendations and technical assistance that allow staff, policy makers, and boards to frame their own decisions on issues they face. The Center offers communities a suite of services that include:

  • Offering recommendations regarding planning and zoning strategies;
  • Assisting in the design of sustainability programs;
  • Creation and updates to comprehensive plans;
  • Creation and assistance on strategic and/or implementation plans;
  • Development of housing needs studies and housing plans;
  • Organization and facilitation of community education and outreach efforts;
  • Conducting comprehensive analyses and updates to municipal zoning codes;
  • Assistance in streamlining of the land use decision-making process;
  • Providing research and strategy reports on any land use topic; and
  • Assisting policy makers in explaining and selecting development and conservation strategies.
